The 2013 series will be the first of two back-to-back Ashes series. Due to an intent to break the cycle of an Ashes series being held directly before a World Cup, the Ashes are being brought forward in the schedule by one year, starting with the 2013–14 series in Australia.
The competition between these two nations started back in colonial days it was 1877 when Australia first toured the UK however in those days it wasn't called the ashes to was just a normal test match.
